Once used
as our primary means for fire detection, lookouts have been replaced by airplanes
and cell phones. In the summer of 1999, Mason Butte and Whiskey Butte were
torn down. The remaining towers, Elk Butte and Bertha Hill, are staffed only
in high fire danger situations.Click below for history and pictures of our
fire detection towers.
