Bertha Hill, originally
named Thunder Mountain, is the first forest fire lookout in the western U.S..
Many stories exist about the name change, the most popular by former C-PTPA
Chief Fire Warden Bert Curtis. The tower was renamed Bertha Hill by college
students working for the then CTPA in honor of a girlfriend. Bertha Hill has
had a total of 5 towers since the turn of the century.
